Originally a trombonist, Matt Peterson made the switch to bass while studying music at the University of Minnesota Duluth. He pursued this new passion and in 2004 relocated to the Twin Cities and quickly became an in demand bassist. His unique melodic and rhythmic approach to playing the bass have made him an important fixture on the Twin Cities jazz scene. He regularly plays with the Zacc Harris Trio, the Jazz Central house rhythm section, the Jana Nyberg Group, the Twin Cities Hot Club and Robert Bell’s Hot Swing Combo. When not playing with these groups, Peterson stays busy freelancing around the Twin Cities with many of the areas top players. Peterson is also a music educator – teaching elementary K-5 aged students in the Edina Public Schools.
